Film Showing: Lost for Words

This feature documentary written and directed by Hannah Papacek Harper is beautifully photographed and thought-provoking. This is a rare opportunity to see this film as it is not available on general release.

Hannah writes:

“Our film is an invitation to forge a new relationship with nature and spark dialogue on how to reconnect with it. It provokes questions in both viewer and protagonist. Together we wonder : What is our future? How can we shape it? How do we consider the needs of the non-human world?

Lost for Words was born from a desire to connect with, understand and feel nature in a creative way. I wanted to find the childhood wonder that can make engaged action beautiful again.

Durham Hall – 10.30 – 12.30

In this art workshop, the ‘Lost Words’ book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris will act as a stepping stone for people to explore the theme of Lost and Found.

We’ll make artwork involving drawing, words, pictures and experiment with book forms in a joyful, creative and colourful way. Jill’s workshop is open to all ages.  (Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Durham Hall – 10.30 – 12.30

This all-abilities, inclusive workshop will explore ways to create collaborative poetry that connects our hearts and minds to Nature.  After a short guided meditation we will weave words together to build poems that explore our relationship with the Natural world. (Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Meet at The Aurrie Mor to begin at 10.30-12.30

A short journey along the seashore gathering inspiration for an art and poetry-based activity. For young people of all ages, accompanied by their parent/guardian. This is an outdoor session so please dress appropriately for the weather.  In the event of very bad weather the session will be held in The Aurrie Mor

Largo Library and Community Hub 13.15 – 14.15

Inviting curious minds of all ages to connect with the 70 bird species of highest conservation concern in Scotland.  Through hands-on activities we enter the fascinating world of birdsong and create visual representations of their calls. We also explore stories behind bird names and the many ways birds have inspired humankind.  (children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Aurrie Mor – 14.30-16.30

Some of the Spell Songs lend themselves to audience participation. So, at this workshop you will learn chorus sections of some of them. This might involve, singing, humming along or whistling – which ever you choose, it will be fun!  Your role in the evening celebration will be to swell the sound of the joining in bits and the sing-along from inside the audience and hopefully encourage others to sing along too. (children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
